My career has spanned over 20 years. I started working with children in 1990 when I was 17. After working as an unqualified nanny for 4 years I decided to do a full time 2 year Diploma course in childcare, so in 1994 I started a Diploma course in Nursery Nursing. After completing my course in 1996, I obtained a wonderful nanny post caring for 1 month premature twin girls, this lead on to more nanny work specifically with multiples. Very early on I seemed to gain a list of many different parents of whom I would help out on a flexible basis, much rather like I do today. I cared for children of all ages ranging from premature new born twins to 16 years, I also had another 2 sets of twins from babies. To date I have cared for around 600 children.
It was during my work as a nanny that I came into contact with Montessori, the ethos I use with in my work today. I decided to attend a Montessori college in 2000 to learn all I could about this wonderful way of communicating with and teaching children.
Over the last 10 years I have worked in two Montessori nurseries including being a Deputy manager in the second, I decided in 2002 to return to work as a daily nanny providing care for children in their own home.
In 2009 I gave birth to my daughter Ella, I was lucky enough to find two nanny placements in which I could take her to work with me. When one came to an end I decided to add the childminder training to my CV. In 2010 I also opened up my own nanny and babysitting agency, but due to its popularity and the immense work load whilst caring for my daughter myself I sadly had to close it. I now work two afternoons a week in Winchester as a nanny, as well as running a childcare consultancy helping parents by giving them the advise they need on specific issues relating to children.
